Baseball Swept at Concord

ATHENS, W.Va. - - Concord University claimed a doubleheader sweep of visiting UVa-Wise in baseball action Friday. The Mountain Lions held off the Cavaliers 3-2 in the opener before run-ruling the guests 16-6 in the finale.

UVa-Wise (18-30) fell behind 3-0 in the opener before mounting a comeback in the sixth inning.

The Cavs scored an unearned run in the inning before freshman Mathew Branham's RBI groundout plated the second run.

It would be all Hank Banner's club would get as Concord (25-22)Cody Dooley would get out of the jam and earn the save.

Freshman Nate Thompson had two of UVa-Wise's four hits in the game one loss.

Game two saw the Mountain Lions line 19 hits in the 16-6 triumph.

Freshman Trevor Nevill had three hits, while junior Stuart Paz and sophomore David Thomas had two hits each in the loss.

The series concludes Sunday at 1 p.m. when the teams meet in Wise.
