Big South Official Release
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced the women's basketball league schedule on Friday morning, which opens on Jan. 2 and concludes March 3 for UNC Asheville.
The Bulldogs open their conference schedule with a road contest at Campbell, and four days later, Asheville will open its conference home schedule at Kimmel Arena versus High Point on Jan. 6.
En route to winning its second straight Big South Conference title, UNC Asheville will travel to Radford on Jan. 9 where the Bulldogs and Highlanders will reconnect after Asheville nipped the Highlanders 49-48 in the tournament championship a year ago to earn the Big South's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament.
For the third time during the 2017-18 season, the Bulldogs will host back-to-back games on Jan. 13 and Jan. 16 versus Longwood and Liberty, respectively. Asheville swept the Lancers and Flames during the regular season last year and posted an average winning margin of 18 points in the four contests.
After hosting a pair of consecutive games, UNC Asheville will travel to Winthrop on Jan. 20 followed by a trip to Charleston Southern on Jan. 23.
The Bulldogs will return home on Jan. 27 versus Presbyterian where Asheville will look to avenge a five-point loss inside Kimmel Arena last season.
Following a trip to Boiling Springs, N.C., Asheville will play host to Winthrop and Radford on Feb. 3 and 6 in what will be its final back-to-back home games of the regular season. Last year in Kimmel Arena, the Bulldogs downed the Eagles 71-55 highlighted by out-scoring Winthrop 23-10 in the third quarter, and Asheville looks to avenge a loss to the Highlanders where Radford escaped with a 64-62 overtime victory in Asheville.
The Bulldogs will travel to High Point on Feb. 10, and three days later will host Charleston Southern on Feb. 13.
In the final five games of the regular season, three of those will be on the road (Liberty on Feb. 17, Longwood on Feb. 24 and Presbyterian on Feb. 27). Sandwiched in between the Flames and Lancers is a home game versus Campbell on Feb. 20, and like last season, the Bulldogs conclude the regular season with a match inside Kimmel Arena versus Gardner-Webb on March 3.
Looking to repeat for a third consecutive time, the Bulldogs will defend their Big South Conference Tournament title beginning on March 8 in Lynchburg, Va. The Big South Championship game is scheduled for March 11 inside the Vines Center.
