UNC Asheville Baseball Final Summer Ball Update

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Most of UNC Asheville's nine baseball players partaking in summer ball have completed their season with just two left competing as most of the leagues have either ended their seasons or are wrapping up their playoffs soon. All nine returners for 2018 gained valuable experience for the upcoming season and helped their teams tremendously.

Nick Boyles
Team: Bismarck Larks
League: Northwoods League, North Division
Location: Bismarck, N.D.

Boyles made 13 appearances on the mound for the Bismarck Larks, pitching 22.2 innings. He struck out 17 batters compared to giving up 12 walks and 11 earned runs. He ended the summer with a 4.36 ERA, 3-2 record and five saves.

Tanner Bush
Team: Forest City Owls
League: Coastal Plain League, West Division
Location: Forest City, N.C.

Bush played in seven games for the Owls batted .231 for the summer. In his time with the Owls, he went 6-of-26 with seven runs scored, two extra-base knocks, one RBI and was a perfect 7-for-7 on the base paths. He was named the team's Owl of the Week on June 12 as he batted .467 with seven runs scored, five stolen bases and a home run the week prior.

Andrew Friedholm
Team: Forest City Owls
League: Coastal Plain League, West Division
Location: Forest City, N.C.

Friedholm saw action in 19 games, making 18 starts for the Owls as their backstop. He batted .167 with eight hits and seven runs scored. Four of his hits were doubles to go along with a home run. He boasted nine runs batted in and a .313 slugging percentage with a .369 on-base percentage.

Kole Harris
Team: Woodstock River Bandits
League: Shenandoah Valley League, North Division

Harris ended his summer with the Woodstock River Bandits batting .148 in 28 games. He registered nine hits on the summer to go along with 11 runs scored. He batted in seven runs, drew 18 walks and stole six bases. His best game of the summer saw him go 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and two runs scored against the Express on July 16.

Brandon Lankford
Team: Bismarck Larks
League: Northwoods League, North Division

Lankford, who started the summer with the Haysville Aviators out of the Jayhawk Collegiate League, has played in 20 games for the Bismarck Larks with the end of the season approaching. He is currently batting .156 with 10 hits, six runs scored and nine RBIs. Four of his hits have been doubles and he has one home run. While with the Aviators, Lankford, UNC Asheville's Freshman All-American, batted .240 in 12 games with 12 hits, nine runs scored, seven extra-base knocks and 13 runs batted in. Between the two teams, he is batting .192 with 23 runs batted in, 15 runs scored, eight doubles and four home runs.

Carmine Pagano
Team: Sanford Mainers
League: New England Baseball League, Northern Division

Pagano saw action in 39 games this season for the Sanford Mainers. He ended the season batting .171 with 19 hits, 10 runs scored and eight runs batted in. Of his 19 hits on the year, seven went for extra bases, including five doubles and two home runs. He drew 10 walks and boasted two sac flies and three sacrifice hits. Pagano boasted five multi-hit games this summer and finished the season with at least one hit in the final three games. In the final stretch, he went 5-for-10 (.500) with two runs scored, a pair of doubles and a walk while striking out just once. In the field, he helped turn three double plays.

Tyler Serricchio
Team: Lake Norman Copperheads
League: Southern Collegiate Baseball League

Serricchio ended his summer having played 20 games for the Lake Norman Copperheads. During his stint with the Copperheads, Serricchio batted .208 with 11 hits, seven runs scored, two doubles, one home run and three runs batted in. From June 30 to July 7, Serricchio had a stretch of five games where he garnered at least one hit, going 7-for-16 (.438) in the stretch with two multi-hit games and two extra-base hits. In total, Serricchio registered a hit in nine games with his best two performances coming against the Athletics. In both contests, he went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. In the second meeting, a 7-4 win on July 1, Serricchio also batted in three runs and blasted a home run.

Chris Troost
Team: Southampton Breakers
League: Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League
Location: Southampton, N.Y.

Troost appeared in four games for the Southampton Breakers, batting .250 with three hits, two runs scored, a double and two walks drawn. He also batted in a run.

Danny Wilson
Team: Wilmington Sharks
League: Coastal Plain League, East Division

Wilson, who started the summer with the Lexington County Blowfish, joined the Wilmington Sharks to finish out the summer, staying in the Coastal Plains League. The Sharks are currently still in the thick of the playoffs, having won the first of a three-game series with the Edenton Steamers for a chance to claim the East Division and advance to the league's Petitt Cup Championship Series. In his time with the Sharks, Wilson has batted .233 in 21 games, making 17 starts. He has 14 hits to his credit to go along with 11 runs scored, two home runs, a double and 10 runs batted in. He is currently slugging .350 with a .299 on-base percentage and is 2-for-2 in stolen bases. He has 26 putouts in the field and 40 assists as he plays second base for Wilmington. Prior to the move to Wilmington, Wilson started 10 of the 11 games he appeared in for the Blowfish. He batted .276 with eight hits, four runs scored, three runs batted in and an on-base percentage of .400. He drew five walks and boasted 26 putouts and eight assists in the field. For the summer, Wilson is batting a combined .247 with 15 runs scored and 13 runs batted in to go along with four extra base hits.
